The Albion bakery in London is using twitter to let customers know when a fresh batch of loaves hit the shelves. A wireless device called Bakertweet is used to broadcast the messages to followers in the local vicinity so they know when to pop down.
For me, this is a classic use of twitter - less intrusive than email, it's providing the customers with information that they want & as a result is driving sales - perfect! See it in action & follow the albion here http://twitter.com/AlbionsOven
